Our verdict on IndexTTS

IndexTTS is an open-source, self-hosted text-to-speech system from the Bilibili IndexTTS Team. It is designed for developers and researchers who need zero-shot voice cloning from a single reference audio clip and want to deploy speech generation on their own hardware. The current IndexTTS 2.5 release supports Chinese, English, Japanese, Spanish, and Arabic. It provides a local browser-based WebUI, Python API, command-line inference, and production serving through vLLM, with WAV export listed for voice-cloning workflows.

Pronunciation control is a central strength. Users can guide output with Pinyin, CMU phonemes, and Japanese Kana, while a duration factor controls speaking speed. Emotion can be directed through reference audio, vectors, or text. These controls give IndexTTS a more detailed speech-generation workflow than a basic clone-and-synthesize tool, particularly for developers working with multilingual or pronunciation-sensitive content. The local WebUI provides an interface for browser-based use, while the Python API and command-line inference support integration into developer workflows.
