IBM Decision Optimization is a family of software for building, solving and deploying prescriptive analytics models. It is aimed at data scientists, developers, analysts, planners, schedulers and enterprise decision-makers working on planning, scheduling, resource allocation and related business problems. The portfolio includes CPLEX Optimization Studio, Decision Optimization for Watson Studio and Decision Optimization Center, with support for Windows, macOS, Linux and API-based development.

Its strongest differentiator is breadth within optimization. Mathematical programming covers LP, MIP, MIQCP and SOCP models, while constraint programming and constraint-based scheduling address problems that need explicit rules and sequencing. OPL provides declarative optimization modeling through an integrated development environment with project management and solution visualization. What-if analysis and decision-support applications extend the workflow beyond solving a single model. APIs for C, C++, Java, C# and Python also support embedding models into broader applications. This makes the product a fit for teams that need several solver methods rather than a narrowly focused planning tool.

The pricing structure gives teams a free starting point through Community Edition, which includes OPL modeling with the IDE, the listed APIs and advanced solver functionality. Developer Subscription is priced at $320 per authorized user per month and adds unlimited variables and constraints plus support access with an active subscription. Deployment options cover servers, clusters and IBM or non-IBM clouds, with machine-capacity, user-, thread- and desktop-based approaches. Integrations include IBM Cloud Pak for Data, IBM Watson Studio, IBM Watson Machine Learning and SPSS Modeler. Choose IBM Decision Optimization when technical teams need modeling depth, scenario analysis and flexible deployment; choose an alternative if the priority is a simpler, narrowly scoped planning experience.
