IBM Cloud Monitoring is a fully managed, cloud-native monitoring service for administrators, DevOps teams and developers. It collects and analyzes metrics from IBM Cloud resources, Kubernetes clusters, virtual machines, bare-metal hosts, applications and services. Its strongest fit is for IBM Cloud infrastructure teams that want one service for infrastructure agents, Kubernetes monitoring, custom metrics, dashboards, alerts and IBM Cloud platform metrics. It also supports monitoring for on-premises and other cloud environments, while its serverless coverage includes IBM Cloud Code Engine workloads.
Pricing follows a usage-based graduated tier model. The Lite plan is free for 30 days, then must be upgraded to a graduated tier plan or deleted. Graduated tier charges are based on hosts, agent mode, containers, API calls and time series. Published pricing lists non-orchestrated agents at 10.07 USD per host and orchestrated agents at 30.05 USD per host. The service offers a 30-day entry period, but teams should account for several usage dimensions when estimating ongoing costs. Prometheus, JMX, StatsD, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, Grafana and IBM Cloud services provide useful connections across monitoring and observability workflows.
The feature set is broad within infrastructure and metrics monitoring. Teams can define alerts and notifications, build dashboards and panels, collect custom metrics, analyze metrics usage and time series, and send Prometheus data through remote write. Kubernetes coverage extends across clusters, workloads and pods, while IBM Cloud Code Engine adds monitoring for serverless workloads. Choose IBM Cloud Monitoring when IBM Cloud is central to the environment and managed metrics monitoring is the priority. Teams seeking a monitoring service centered on a different cloud provider or a web-only workflow may prefer another option.
