Our verdict on Huawei Cloud OCR

Huawei Cloud OCR is a cloud-based optical character recognition service for developers and organizations building document-recognition features into applications. It is accessed through REST APIs over HTTPS or official SDKs, with results returned as JSON. The service covers general text recognition, tables, web images, passports, identity documents, and smart document analysis. It fits teams that need cloud OCR with table and identity-document extraction rather than a standalone desktop application.

Billing is organized around API usage instead of conventional monthly subscription tiers. The default Pay-per-use plan uses postpaid billing and charges by successful API calls. The Package plan uses prepaid billing, remains valid for one year, and consumes package quota before pay-per-use billing begins. This structure can suit applications with variable request volumes or teams that want prepaid quota, while organizations seeking a simple fixed monthly plan may prefer a different pricing model. Package and pay-per-use billing are the main commercial choices described for the service.

Its strongest functional distinction is the range of structured recognition options. General table recognition returns rows, columns, and cell coordinates and can produce Excel output, while smart document analysis extracts key-value pairs, text, and table content. Inputs can be supplied as Base64 images or URLs, including Huawei Cloud Object Storage Service URLs. The published SDK options support seven languages, and web image OCR covers screenshots, product images, and advertisements. File handling has a 10 MB maximum after Base64 encoding, with original files recommended not to exceed 7 MB. Choose Huawei Cloud OCR for API-led document workflows that need tables, structured fields, or identity-document recognition; choose an alternative when larger inputs or fixed monthly pricing are central requirements.
