Huawei Cloud Key-Value Storage Service (KVS) review
A managed KV service with useful table features, but a firm discontinuation date affects its fit.

Huawei Cloud Key-Value Storage Service (KVS) is a managed cloud service for storing and indexing key-value data, including application metadata, management parameters, and state data. It is aimed at teams already working within Huawei Cloud, across small, mid-market, and enterprise organizations. Stores and tables organize data, while shard and sort keys define item placement and ordering. Huawei lists gaming, advertising tracking, media, software, and internet applications among its use cases. Its planned discontinuation on April 30, 2027 is a central consideration for any new deployment.
KVS focuses on table operations and access patterns rather than a broad ecosystem. It supports adding, updating, deleting, and scanning items, alongside local and global secondary indexes, BSON-formatted data, and prefix-based traversal. REST API access uses request signature authentication. For resilience and operations, the service supports synchronous writes across availability zones and connects with Huawei Cloud Cloud Eye for monitoring and alarms. That set of capabilities suits applications needing managed KV tables and indexing within Huawei Cloud; it is less compelling if a project depends on a wider range of integrations or a longer service horizon.
According to the vendor's pricing details, KVS uses pay-per-use billing: storage is billed hourly, while read/write request charges depend on usage. This avoids a fixed monthly plan, but costs will vary with both stored data and request volume. There is no free plan. The more important constraint is lifecycle: Huawei Cloud has announced discontinuation in all regions on April 30, 2027. Teams with an existing workload that can be retired or migrated before then may find its table and index features appropriate. Buyers planning a long-lived system should choose a service with a future beyond that date instead.
Huawei Cloud Key-Value Storage Service (KVS) pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Organizes data into stores and tables with shard and sort keys
- Supports local and global secondary indexes, BSON, and prefix traversal
- Offers synchronous cross-zone writes and Cloud Eye monitoring
- Where it doesn't
- Huawei Cloud plans to discontinue KVS in all regions on April 30, 2027
- Pay-per-use charges vary with storage and read/write request usage
- REST API access and Huawei Cloud monitoring make its ecosystem fit narrow
