Huawei Cloud Firewall is a managed cloud service for protecting Huawei Cloud resources at internet and VPC borders. It is designed for teams that need inbound and outbound traffic controls across services such as VPC, EIP, NAT Gateway, ELB, Enterprise Router, and Huawei Cloud VPN. The service is available through web and API access, with Standard and Professional editions for different protection needs.
The Standard edition covers internet border protection, traffic intrusion detection, and an intrusion prevention system. Core controls include access-control policies, blacklists, whitelists, virtual patching, traffic logs, and traffic statistics. Huawei documents the service as a SaaS offering without a fixed concurrent-connection limit, while the published Standard-edition protection bandwidth is 10 Mbit/s. This makes the edition a fit for focused perimeter controls where that bandwidth level is appropriate.
Professional extends the service with inter-VPC traffic auditing and protection, antivirus, a custom IPS signature database, and network packet capture. These additions make it the more suitable choice for environments that need visibility and controls between Huawei Cloud networks, rather than only internet-edge filtering. CFW can protect VPN traffic, but Huawei Cloud VPN provides the VPN connectivity and CFW is not the VPN gateway. SSL/TLS encrypted traffic is not decrypted for IPS detection. Choose Huawei Cloud Firewall when your infrastructure is centered on Huawei Cloud and you need managed internet and VPC protection; consider another option if decrypted SSL inspection or an integrated site-to-site VPN gateway is essential.
