HOMER review
A self-hosted platform for inspecting SIP traffic, call flows and voice-quality reports.

HOMER is an open-source observability platform for SIP, VoIP and real-time communications traffic. It is designed for IT service providers, VoIP providers, trunk suppliers and enterprise voice teams that need to capture signaling, inspect traffic and investigate call quality. The platform runs through a built-in web interface and supports macOS, Linux, APIs and self-hosted deployments. Its published model is free open-source software rather than a vendor-hosted subscription product.
Its main strength is the depth of its capture and analysis workflow. HOMER supports HEP/EEP SIP and RTC packet capture, search and filtering across captured traffic, call-flow visualization and PCAP export. REST APIs and query services support programmatic access, while DuckLake, Parquet and object-storage support extend the platform into data-lake workflows. Optional VQ-RTCP-XR ingestion brings MOS, jitter and packet-loss information into the analysis environment. SIPREC signaling session recording is also supported.
Platform fit is another important consideration. Integrations include Kamailio, OpenSIPS, CaptAgent, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, RTPEngine, sipgrep, sngrep and hepipe, giving teams several established SIP and capture paths. HOMER is a strong choice for organizations that want control over deployment, storage and retention while keeping packet analysis close to their voice infrastructure. It is less suitable for teams seeking a hosted monitoring service, synthetic testing or dedicated SIP-trunk monitoring; those requirements call for a different product focus.
HOMER pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Free open-source HEP/EEP capture with search and filtering
- Call-flow visualization, PCAP export, REST APIs and query services
- Integrates with Kamailio, OpenSIPS, Asterisk and other SIP tools
- Where it doesn't
- Self-hosted deployment requires your team to operate the platform
- Does not provide synthetic testing or SIP-trunk monitoring
- Retention depends on deployment configuration rather than a fixed hosted plan
