Hex review
A flexible hosted notebook platform for collaborative analytics and published outputs.

Hex is a hosted analytics platform built around interactive notebooks for data exploration, analysis, and shareable outputs. Analysts, data scientists, business users, and larger organizations can combine SQL, Python, R, and no-code cells; connect to warehouses, databases, files, and APIs; then turn results into interactive charts, dashboards, and published apps. Real-time collaborative editing, permissions, reviews, version restoration, and AI-assisted notebook analysis support shared workflows rather than isolated notebook work.
Pricing scales from the free Community plan to paid collaboration and governance tiers. Community includes a Hex agent trial, any data source, all cell types, and small compute. Professional costs $36 per user per month and adds the Hex agent, standard credits, up to five published apps, 30-day version history, and medium compute. Team costs $75 per user per month and adds extended credits, unlimited published apps, visual exploration and drill down, unlimited version history, scheduled runs and alerts, and advanced compute add-ons. Enterprise adds explorer seats, audit logs, OIDC SSO, Bring Your Own Key, a single-tenant add-on, and dedicated support. A 14-day Team trial does not require a payment card.
Its ecosystem fit is a major consideration. Hex connects with Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Athena, Amazon S3, dbt, Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, GitHub, GitLab, and Slack. That range suits teams that need notebooks connected to existing data and orchestration systems, with governance layered into the workspace. Choose Hex when collaborative, published analytics matter; a lightweight individual notebook workflow may not need its broader app, scheduling, and governance features.
