HDShredder is disk-wiping software from Miray Software AG for securely erasing hard disks, SSDs, USB storage, flash media and other mass-storage devices. It suits individuals, technicians and organizations that need to delete whole drives, partitions or defined storage areas independently of partition layout, file system and operating system. The product runs as a Windows application, directly on Linux, or from self-booting USB or CD/DVD media, making it relevant for systems that cannot rely on an installed operating system.

Pricing follows a freemium, one-time licensing model. The Free Edition securely erases storage media at up to 6 GB/min. Basic Edition costs €19.90 and adds partition deletion and random deletion patterns. Standard Edition costs €39.90 and adds 18 security levels, 15 international security standards, and whole-drive and partition deletion. Professional Edition costs €99 and adds detailed deletion reports, area deletion, custom deletion patterns and SmartDefectSkip. Professional Edition Portable costs €199 and adds a portable service version for use on clients' PCs. Enterprise Edition 4x, 8x and 16x cost €299, €499 and €799 respectively, adding parallel mass deletion alongside Professional Edition features.

The main distinction is breadth across wiping scopes and operating environments. HDShredder supports whole-disk, partition and storage-area deletion, plus SSD and flash-media support, detailed reports, erasure certificates and parallel deletion. That makes the higher editions a fit for service providers and teams handling multiple drives or requiring documented erasure. Buyers needing only occasional basic deletion may find the Free or Basic Edition sufficient; those needing reports, configurable patterns or multi-drive throughput should consider Professional or Enterprise tiers. The product is less suited to buyers seeking a recurring subscription model or a narrowly focused single-purpose utility.

  • Where it doesn't

    • Professional Portable costs €199 one-time
    • Enterprise pricing rises with parallel-deletion capacity
