HDShredder review
A free, self-booting drive erasure tool with paid standards and reporting features.

HDShredder is desktop software for securely erasing hard disks, SSDs, USB drives, memory cards, and other mass-storage media. It is aimed at individuals, technicians, and organizations that need to remove data from complete drives, individual partitions, or selected physical areas. Its self-booting operation supports erasure independently of a drive’s partition layout and file system, while Windows and Linux delivery options cover common desktop and service workflows.
The edition structure scales from basic erasure to documented deletion controls. Free Edition provides secure storage-media erasure and a listed speed of up to 6 GB/min. Basic Edition adds drive and partition deletion, random deletion patterns, and USB 3.0 support. Standard Edition introduces 18 security levels and 15 international security standards. Professional Edition adds deletion reports, custom deletion patterns, area deletion, and SmartDefectSkip. The Portable version is designed for use on clients’ PCs, while Enterprise Edition 4x, 8x, and 16x add parallel deletion, international standards, and custom patterns.
HDShredder’s strongest fit is drive retirement, reuse, servicing, and other workflows where complete-media or partition-level erasure matters. The product offers a narrower focus than a general file-cleanup utility: its documented capabilities center on physical drive, partition, and area erasure rather than routine file and folder management. Choose it when self-booting operation, standards support, reporting, or parallel media deletion are priorities. Choose an alternative when the primary requirement is file-level shredding, free-space wiping, or scheduled shredding.
