GridGain review
A broad enterprise platform combining in-memory speed, persistence, SQL, and distributed processing.

GridGain is an enterprise in-memory data platform for transactional, streaming, analytical, and AI/ML workloads. It combines distributed in-memory processing with configurable disk persistence, ANSI SQL, key-value APIs, ACID transactions, stream processing, and distributed compute. The platform is intended for mission-critical applications that need low latency, horizontal scaling, high availability, and durable storage. It supports API and self-hosted deployment, with the product description also covering on-premises, public and private clouds, containers, managed services, and mainframes.
Pricing follows a contact-sales model, and GridGain offers a 30-day trial rather than a free plan. Its capability set spans distributed in-memory and persistent storage, SQL access through JDBC and ODBC, key-value caching, partitioning, checkpoints, and write-ahead logging. High-availability replication, automatic recovery, and data center replication address continuity requirements, while vector indexing and similarity search extend the platform toward AI-related workloads. Vector search requires an eligible license, so buyers should confirm edition fit before planning around that capability.
The integration surface is broad for established enterprise environments. GridGain lists Kafka, Oracle GoldenGate, Spring, Apache Spark, Hibernate L2 Cache, MyBatis L2 Cache, Cassandra, Iceberg, Parquet, and CSV integrations. That combination supports transactional systems, streaming pipelines, analytical processing, and existing data platforms without narrowing the product to one data model; supported models include key-value, relational, document, geospatial, and unstructured data. GridGain suits organizations consolidating several low-latency data workloads around one platform. It is less suitable for buyers who require a free plan, public recurring pricing, or a narrowly focused caching product.
GridGain pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Combines in-memory and persistent storage with configurable durability
- Supports SQL, ACID transactions, scaling, replication, and recovery
- Connects with Kafka, Spark, Oracle GoldenGate, and data formats
- Where it doesn't
- Pricing requires contacting sales rather than selecting a public plan
- Vector search requires an eligible license
- May exceed the needs of teams seeking a narrow caching tool
