GreptimeDB review
A flexible columnar database for teams consolidating observability data with SQL and PromQL.

GreptimeDB is an open-source, columnar observability database for storing and querying metrics, logs, traces, and other time-indexed data. It is aimed at teams that want one system for observability data, with SQL for cross-data analysis and PromQL for metrics. Deployment can be self-managed as a standalone process or distributed cluster, while Enterprise options support fully managed deployment or installation in a customer cloud.
Its strongest fit is an observability stack with varied ingestion requirements. GreptimeDB supports OpenTelemetry OTLP/HTTP, Prometheus Remote Write, the Loki Push API, Elasticsearch Bulk API, InfluxDB Line Protocol, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and its own HTTP and gRPC APIs. Grafana is also listed as an integration. Object-storage support for Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, and Azure Blob Storage helps support distributed deployments, while inverted, skipping, and full-text indexes provide multiple indexing approaches.
The open-source edition includes an Apache-2.0 licensed core, SQL and PromQL, standalone or cluster deployment, retention and downsampling, and continuous aggregation through Flow. The Enterprise Fully-Managed plan is listed at $290 per month and adds fully managed deployment, unlimited data storage and retention, isolated resources and network, and OpenTelemetry support. Enterprise Bring Your Own Cloud includes customer-cloud deployment, installation service, advanced technical support, and enterprise-ready extensions, with custom pricing. Choose GreptimeDB when SQL, PromQL, retention controls, and broad observability ingestion matter; teams specifically seeking a mature Log Query experience should account for its experimental status.
