Our verdict on Google Sites
Google Sites is a browser-based builder for publishing informational websites without programming. Its drag-and-drop editor, templates, page hierarchy, custom paths, navigation controls, and public or restricted sharing suit personal sites, team and project pages, events, and internal knowledge bases. Custom domains and HTML, CSS, and JavaScript embeds extend its usefulness beyond a basic internal page, while the web-based workflow keeps access simple for Google Workspace users.
The published Starter plan costs $7 per user per month with monthly billing and includes Google Sites among Google Workspace applications, along with 30 GB of pooled storage per person. The strongest fit is its Workspace ecosystem: users can embed Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Charts, YouTube, Calendar, Maps, and other web content. Google Analytics integration adds traffic measurement, and sharing controls support either public publishing or restricted access. For organizations already organizing content in Google services, these connections reduce the need to move material into a separate site system.
Google Sites is intentionally focused on simple informational publishing rather than a broad content-management system. Blogging is not supported, and the product is a weaker choice for publishers needing a native blog workflow or more specialized site-building capabilities. It is also worth treating the $7 figure as the Google Workspace Starter tier that includes Sites, rather than as a standalone Sites subscription. Choose Google Sites for clear, lightweight pages centered on Workspace content; consider an alternative when blogging or a more expansive publishing toolkit is central to the project.
