Google Cloud SQL review
A managed SQL service with strong Google Cloud operations and integrations.

Google Cloud SQL is a fully managed relational database service for teams running MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server on Google Cloud. It handles administration tasks including backups, maintenance, updates, high availability, failover, encryption, replication, monitoring, and logging. Standard database clients, external applications, Google Cloud services, the console, gcloud CLI, client libraries, and the Cloud SQL Admin REST API can connect to its database instances.
Cloud SQL Enterprise starts at $0.0413 per vCPU per hour for general-purpose workloads, supports up to 96 vCPUs, includes a 99.95% SLA, and retains point-in-time recovery logs for up to 7 days. Enterprise Plus starts at $0.05369 per vCPU per hour for high-performance workloads, supports up to 128 vCPUs, offers a 99.99% SLA, and retains point-in-time recovery logs for up to 35 days. These are compute rates rather than flat monthly prices; total usage varies with region, database engine, machine type, storage, networking, and configuration.
Its strongest fit is for organizations already operating in the Google Cloud ecosystem. Integrations include Google Kubernetes Engine, BigQuery, Cloud Run, App Engine, Database Migration Service, and Google Cloud Observability. High-availability regional instances, standby failover, read replicas, cross-region replicas, cascading replicas, automated and on-demand backups, and encryption cover core operational needs. Choose Cloud SQL when managed hosting and Google Cloud integration matter most. Consider an alternative when deep, specialized database performance analysis is the primary requirement rather than managed database administration.
