Google Cloud Managed Service for Prometheus is a managed monitoring service for Prometheus and OpenTelemetry metrics. It collects data from Kubernetes, virtual machines, serverless workloads, on-premises environments, and other clouds, then stores it in Google Cloud’s globally scalable monitoring backend. It suits teams that want Prometheus-compatible monitoring without operating the entire metrics storage layer, while still supporting self-deployed collectors and Prometheus API workflows.

Pricing is usage-based and billed monthly by million samples ingested. The first 0–50 billion samples cost $0.06 per million samples, the next 50–250 billion cost $0.048, the next 250–500 billion cost $0.036, and usage over 500 billion costs $0.024 per million samples. Storage and retention are not separately charged. The published pricing also includes separate Cloud Monitoring API read charges, so teams should account for both ingestion and query-related costs. With no free plan, it fits organizations prepared to budget for ongoing usage.

Its strongest advantage is breadth across collection, querying, and alerting. Managed Prometheus collectors cover Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry Collector supports compatible telemetry pipelines, and Ops Agent ingestion covers Compute Engine. Users can query through Cloud Monitoring, Grafana, or the Prometheus API with PromQL, while cloud-based and standalone rule and alert evaluation support operational workflows. Twenty-four-month retention and custom metrics querying add depth for longer-term analysis. Choose it for globally accessible, Google Cloud-based Prometheus monitoring with multiple ingestion options; teams seeking a free plan or a fixed recurring price should consider a different tool.
