GNU PSPP review
A free, SPSS-compatible desktop tool for repeatable statistical analysis.

GNU PSPP is free, open-source desktop software for analyzing sampled data. It is aimed at students, researchers, and analysts who need a graphical workspace for data entry, preparation, transformations, visualization, and statistical analysis without license fees. The interface supports descriptive statistics, frequencies, correlations, charts, t-tests, ANOVA, nonparametric tests, linear and logistic regression, factor analysis, reliability analysis, clustering, and ROC analysis. Its SPSS-compatible system and portable file handling also make it relevant for workflows built around those formats.
For repeatable analysis, PSPP combines its graphical user interface with a command-line interface and syntax files. That gives analysts a way to document and rerun procedures rather than relying only on point-and-click steps. The feature set covers common hypothesis testing and regression needs while extending into factor, reliability, cluster, and ROC analysis. Users working with external data can import from Gnumeric, OpenDocument Spreadsheet, PostgreSQL, and delimited text files. This makes PSPP a practical fit when the priority is a broad set of established statistical procedures with flexible data import.
The main trade-off is its desktop focus and platform scope: the documented distributions are for Windows and GNU/Linux, while other operating systems may require building from source. Analysts who prefer a graphical workflow can work through the interface, but repeatable or more structured projects may involve syntax files and command-line use. Choose GNU PSPP for free SPSS-compatible analysis across common statistical tests, regression, data preparation, and supported file formats. Consider an alternative if your work depends on a different operating system or a deployment model beyond desktop software.
