Gnocchi review
A strong self-hosted choice for OpenStack metric aggregation and multi-tenant storage.

Gnocchi is an open-source time-series database for storing and indexing metrics and structured resources at large scale. It is aimed at teams operating OpenStack environments, monitoring systems, or other multi-tenant infrastructure that needs ingestion-time aggregation, defined retention periods, and configurable granularity. Its HTTP REST API, resource history, metric value search, and queryable resource indexer support metric and resource management through a self-hosted deployment model.
The pricing model is open source, but Gnocchi is not presented as a free hosted service. Deployment is self-hosted through its API and pluggable storage and indexer drivers, so teams should plan for infrastructure ownership and operational responsibility. The product's storage model is designed around archive policies that retain data for defined timespans and granularities, while measures batching and ingestion-time aggregation can help shape incoming measurements before storage. This makes it a fit for organizations that want control over retention and aggregation behavior rather than a turnkey hosted database.
Gnocchi's ecosystem is a central strength. Documented ingestion methods include the HTTP REST API, StatsD protocol, Prometheus Remote Write, InfluxDB line protocol, AMQP 1.0, and Collectd. Integrations include Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios, Icinga, Ceph, OpenStack Swift, Amazon S3, Redis, PostgreSQL, and MySQL. That breadth suits OpenStack metric pipelines and mixed monitoring environments. Choose Gnocchi when horizontal scaling, multi-tenancy, compressed storage, and policy-driven aggregation matter most. Choose another product if you need a managed hosted offering or a database centered on a named query language.
