Our verdict on GMX Mail
GMX Mail is a free personal email service from 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH, aimed at people who want more than a basic inbox without paying for a mailbox. It offers up to 65 GB of storage, attachments up to 50 MB, and up to 10 email aliases. Browser access is complemented by mobile apps for iOS and Android and a Chrome extension. For someone consolidating personal email and everyday organization, its scope is notably broad for a free service.
The strongest reason to consider GMX is the set of tools around the mailbox. Mail Collector can bring other email accounts into GMX, while filter rules help organize incoming messages. PGP email encryption and spam and malware filtering address distinct parts of email handling. GMX Cloud adds file storage and sharing, Online Office provides document editing, and Organizer includes a calendar and reminders; Contacts rounds out the connected services. These additions favor someone who wants email and light productivity tools together. If the priority is a minimal inbox, the collection of services may be unnecessary.
GMX is available on the web and through mobile apps, with push notifications and optional PIN protection on mobile. That makes it a practical option for people who want access across browser and phone, while the Chrome extension adds another browser route. Its free account is the relevant choice for this listing, and the published service is not ad-free. Choose GMX if generous storage, aliases, and bundled tools matter more than an ad-free experience; consider another service if avoiding ads is a priority or you only want a simpler mailbox. The service also lists 50 MB attachments, which can suit users who regularly send larger files by email.
