Global Mapper is desktop GIS software for viewing, converting, editing, analyzing, and visualizing spatial data. It is aimed at GIS professionals, engineers, surveyors, mapping specialists, and organizations working with varied geospatial files. Its support for more than 300 vector, raster, elevation, and point-cloud formats makes it suited to projects that move between multiple data types, while Global Mapper Mobile extends viewing, editing, GPS tracking, and collection to iOS and Android field workflows.

Pricing divides the product into capability levels. Essentials costs $599 per user per year and covers data viewing, format conversion, coordinate transformation, reprojection, and streamed online data sources. Advanced costs $1,199 per user per year, adding terrain and vector analysis, scripting, workflow automation, advanced geodetic analysis, and professional cartographic map production. Professional costs $2,199 per user per year and adds LiDAR and point-cloud processing, drone photogrammetry, complex imagery and raster analysis, and AI/ML image classification. Perpetual options include Standard Node-Locked at $700, Pro Node-Locked at $1,750, Standard Floating at $1,050, Pro Floating at $2,625, and Standard Network at $2,100.

The feature breadth is the main reason to choose Global Mapper. Terrain creation, contour generation, watershed, viewshed, volume analysis, raster calculation, reclassification, mosaicing, pan sharpening, 3D visualization, fly-through recording, map layout, and batch reprojection support substantial desktop workflows. The Global Mapper SDK, online data sources, and mobile app broaden its ecosystem fit. However, the cost and desktop emphasis make it less suitable for buyers seeking a lower-cost GIS, browser-based mapping, or dashboard building. Choose it when specialized terrain, raster, format, or point-cloud work justifies the investment.
