Gigalixir Java Hosting is a platform-as-a-service environment for Java, Spring Boot, Jakarta EE, Kotlin, and other JVM applications. It targets developers, teams, and organizations that want managed application hosting without operating Kubernetes or Jenkins infrastructure. Git-based deployment is central: its buildpack detects Maven or Gradle projects, installs a selected JDK, builds the application, and runs executable JAR or WAR files. Supported Java versions include 1.8, 11, and 17, with application-server support for Spring Boot, Jetty, Thorntail, and Tomcat.
The plan structure gives smaller applications a practical starting point. The Free Tier costs $0 per month and includes 1 app replica, 0.5 GB memory, a free-tier PostgreSQL database, custom domains and SSL, and zero-downtime deployments. The Standard Tier costs $10 per month and adds SSH and remote console access, no 30-day inactivity sleeps, clustering and node discovery, plus high-availability databases and read replicas. Enterprise adds isolated clusters, dedicated ingress, static IPs, traffic isolation, priority support, and custom SLAs. Standard pricing is usage-based, so memory, replicas, and database resources affect the actual cost.
For Java teams, the strongest fit is a continuously running JVM container with configurable memory, JAVA_OPTS, environment variables, secrets, scaling, logs, and CLI administration. Managed PostgreSQL connects through JDBC, and integrations include GitHub Actions, Maven, and Gradle. The trade-off is a narrower surrounding platform ecosystem, while the main documentation is primarily Elixir-focused. Choose Gigalixir when Git-driven JVM deployment, persistent containers, and PostgreSQL matter more than broad integrations. Teams needing a larger set of platform connections or Java-first documentation may prefer an alternative.

- Where it doesn't
- Free Tier is limited to 1 app replica and 0.5 GB memory
- Platform integrations are narrower than its Java deployment features
- Documentation is primarily focused on Elixir rather than Java
