Genymotion Desktop review
Customizable virtual devices and testing tools, with a free personal-use plan.

Genymotion Desktop runs virtual Android phones and tablets locally on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its customizable device profiles and Android images—from Android 5.1 through the latest available version—make it relevant to developers, testers, QA teams, freelancers, students, and businesses working across Android versions. Android Studio and ADB-based IDE integration connect it to development workflows, while GPU acceleration and gamepad input support add options for testing apps that use those capabilities.
Testing tools cover more than device selection. GPS spoofing and route simulation, camera and media injection, biometrics and fingerprint simulation, and network interface and signal simulation let teams exercise app behavior under varied conditions. It can capture screenshots and screen recordings, and dynamic root access is available on supported Android images. Google Play Store installation is supported through the Google Play widget, but the store is not pre-installed. This range suits teams needing configurable local test devices; a simpler emulator may be a better fit if they do not need these specific controls.
The Free plan is for personal use and includes free widgets, while the Educational plan costs $49 per student and workstation per year and is for students, teachers, and schools with valid proof. The published plans also include Individual, Business, and Premium: Individual targets freelancers and self-employed users and includes best-effort email support; Business is for companies and employees, with high-priority email support and volume discounts; Premium adds all-inclusive widgets and Android versions, VIP support, and license server access for large teams. A 30-day Pro trial is listed. The paid entry point is therefore suited to eligible educational users, while organizations should compare the business tiers against their support and licensing needs.
