Our verdict on GBA.emu

GBA.emu is a Game Boy Advance emulator for Android devices and Linux desktops. Based on Visual Boy Advance-M, it supports GBA ROM files, save states, cheat files, configurable on-screen controls, external input devices, hardware sensors, and audio controls. It is aimed at players who want more than basic touchscreen emulation, particularly Android users interested in motion or light-sensor input and selected-title link-cable emulation. The included Motocross Challenge game is an exception to the requirement that users supply their own ROM files.

Its feature set covers several practical parts of the emulation experience. Save states use VisualBoyAdvance-M .sgm files, while cheats use VBA-M-compatible .clt files. ROM loading includes ZIP, RAR, and 7Z archives, reducing the need to unpack supported files first. On Android, configurable on-screen controls can be paired with Bluetooth or USB HID gamepads and keyboards. Hardware accelerometer, gyroscope, and light-sensor support gives compatible games additional input options, while audio filtering and channel mixer controls provide more control over playback.

GBA.emu is a focused choice for Android and Linux users who value input flexibility, save-state compatibility, and support for existing VisualBoyAdvance-M files. Its open-source status and repository-provided development builds may also suit users who want access to the project source and alternate builds. The main boundaries are its platform scope, selected-title limitation for link emulation, and dependence on user-supplied ROM files for most games. Users seeking a straightforward GBA emulator with sensors, external controllers, cheats, and archive loading should consider it; those requiring broad link support across titles or a different platform should look elsewhere.
