Our verdict on GameFly

GameFly is a paid subscription service for renting video games and movies by mail. Members add titles to a rental queue, receive available discs, and return them without late fees or return-shipping charges. The service supports games for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo systems, with queue management available on the website and through iPhone, iPad, and Android apps. It is designed for players who prefer physical rentals and may also want to buy eligible rented titles to keep, rather than access a digital or cloud-based game library.

The plan lineup is organized around the number of discs available at one time. The Budget Plan provides one game or movie at a time and limits selections to titles more than 30 days old. The 1-Disc Plan adds Member Rewards and a 30-Day GameLock window, while the 2-Disc, 3-Disc, and 4-Disc Plans offer the same core features with more discs out at once. Elite options are available as 2-Disc, 3-Disc, and 4-Disc Plans, adding Member Rewards, early access to the monthly sale, and two 7-Day GameLock slots. A 30-day trial is available before paid monthly membership begins.

GameFly’s main distinction is its physical delivery model. Queue management is available across web, iOS, and Android, but the rental experience still depends on receiving and returning discs by mail. GameLock availability options can help members prioritize certain titles, and buy-to-keep offers extend the service beyond short-term rental. Choose GameFly if mailed games, console support, flexible disc capacity, and physical ownership options match your preferences. Choose a digital or cloud-gaming subscription instead if immediate downloads or streaming are more important than physical media.
