Our verdict on Foxtel Now

Foxtel Now is an Australian subscription service for viewers who want live television alongside on-demand series and movies. Its bundles cover starter entertainment, sport, movies and other content, with news, lifestyle, documentaries and kids’ programming also part of the service. It suits households that prefer a mix of scheduled channels and on-demand viewing over an internet connection, and want to choose a bundle rather than commit to a lock-in contract. The service is paid, with a 10-day trial for new customers.

The published Starter bundle includes 35 live TV channels, live and on-demand viewing, and two simultaneous streams. According to the vendor’s pricing information, Starter is $35 AUD per month. Sports + Movies is listed at $84 per month standard and includes over 40 live TV channels, over 50 sports live and movies on demand. The Ultimate bundle has over 50 live TV channels, over 50 sports live, and movies, documentaries and kids’ content. Those higher bundles broaden the mix, but the Starter price and channel count may make value a key consideration for viewers primarily seeking a large channel selection.

Foxtel Now supports web, Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, and the service is described as available on smart TVs, mobile devices, computers and selected streaming devices, as well as PlayStation 4. Subscribers can register up to five devices, pause and rewind live TV, and watch on two streams simultaneously. The subscription itself does not provide free-to-air access; the vendor distinguishes that from free-to-air viewing through a Foxtel Now box with an antenna. Choose Foxtel Now if live channels, on-demand programs and bundle choice matter more than maximizing simultaneous streams or getting free-to-air channels in the subscription. Viewers who need more than two concurrent streams or free-to-air access should look elsewhere.
