Forum For Free review
A practical free host for communities that want phpBB without server management.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Forum For Free provides hosted phpBB message boards for people who want to run online discussions without managing their own hosting. Its Free plan includes automatic forum creation and activation on the vendor’s servers, with no payment required. The service suits budget-first communities, clubs, and discussion groups that need a conventional forum rather than a broader website platform. It supports unlimited forums, categories, posts, and users, giving communities room to organize multiple discussion areas under one hosted service.
The feature set covers the core work of running a forum. Administrators can apply forum, user, and group permissions; create private forums and restricted user groups; and use moderation tools such as topic splitting and bulk post actions. Members get search, polls, topic subscriptions, email notifications, private messaging, and avatar uploads. Multiple styles and customization options allow the forum’s presentation to be adjusted, while automatic setup reduces the operational work required before launch. Ticket-based support is available for problems, backups, and abuse reports.
Forum For Free is a focused choice for communities that want phpBB hosting with a simple pricing model and the main tools expected from a discussion board. Its web-only platform makes it suited to browser-based administration and participation, while the single Free plan keeps the offering straightforward rather than tiered. Communities that need hosted phpBB, unlimited core forum activity, permissions, moderation, and customization should consider it. Organizations seeking broader platform choices or a more varied plan structure should look elsewhere.
