Our verdict on forScore
forScore is a sheet music reading and library app for musicians who use iPhone, iPad, or Mac. It imports PDF scores into a searchable library and combines reading with annotation, page management, setlists, and page-turning controls. It also supports offline access and has an in-app storefront for free and paid PDF scores. That mix suits solo musicians and smaller ensembles who already work on Apple devices and want to manage their own score files, rather than shoppers looking for a broad retail catalog as their main tool.
The purchase model has two parts. According to the vendor’s pricing information, the standard forScore app is a $24.99 one-time purchase, with a universal purchase across supported platforms. forScore Pro is an optional $14.99 per year subscription that adds advanced functionality, priority support, and exclusive content; it is not required for normal use. The vendor’s support article dates these prices to February 2025 and notes that regional prices may vary and change, so buyers should check the App Store for current pricing. The paid entry point and recurring Pro tier are worth weighing against how much of the extra functionality is needed.
Its standout strength is control over scores after import: users can rearrange, duplicate, rotate, split, or merge pages, crop them, adjust display, and share or print annotated PDFs. Page turns can be controlled with compatible devices, MIDI, or remote synchronization. Connections to Musicnotes, Noteflight, Virtual Sheet Music, Presto Music, several publishers, iCloud, Dropbox, and Google Drive help bring scores into the library. The trade-off is platform fit: forScore is limited to Apple platforms, and its storefront does not make it a general-purpose music retailer. Choose it for PDF organization and performance tools in an Apple workflow; look elsewhere if you need non-Apple support or a broad catalog-first service.
