Our verdict on FME Realize
For teams that need to view infrastructure data where it exists, FME Realize brings FME data and digital twins into augmented reality on iPhone and iPad. Its intended use cases include utilities, construction, transportation, aviation, and local government. The app is free for unlimited users or devices, but it is not a standalone AR authoring tool: workflows are created without code in FME Form and delivered through FME Flow, version 2025.1 or later. That makes it most relevant to organizations already working in the FME platform.
Field alignment is a practical focus. Realize uses GPS or location-based positioning, with manual drag, rotate, and lock controls to correct device alignment. Teams can view and interact with infrastructure models on site, receive real-time updates from field assessments, and collect user input for processing through FME Flow. These capabilities suit work where a digital twin needs to be checked against its real-world context. The trade-off is a specialized workflow: Realize is not a general-purpose AR creation tool, and its positioning options center on GPS and manual adjustment.
The app also supports connected experiences with reports, dashboards, web apps, and APIs, extending what a field worker can access or submit from an AR view. Pricing for the app itself is free, but access depends on an FME Flow environment; the broader FME Platform has tailored pricing. iOS-only availability and the lack of offline use also narrow its fit for teams working without compatible devices or connectivity. Choose Realize if your organization uses FME Form and Flow and needs on-site visualization or input capture; consider another approach if you need web AR, offline field work, or a standalone authoring product.
