FlyFTP deploys a private FTP, explicit FTPS and SFTP server into a customer’s Azure subscription. It is aimed at organizations that want a transfer endpoint inside their own Azure tenant, particularly Azure users seeking a basic self-hosted service. Files remain in the customer’s tenant rather than on FlyFTP infrastructure. Users connect with standard clients such as FileZilla, curl, WinSCP and OpenSSH; the product is not presented as a web-console transfer service.

Its protocol support is specific and practical: explicit FTPS uses TLS on TCP 21 with passive data connections, while SFTP runs on TCP 22 and uses SSH public-key authentication. Each account gets an isolated home directory, and files can be shared between the FTPS and SFTP protocols. FlyFTP also provides an automatic trusted certificate for the Azure hostname, CIDR client-network allow-listing, encrypted SITE commands for account administration, and administrative usage and event log commands. That combination suits teams that need controlled file exchange and basic operational visibility within an Azure deployment, rather than a broader transfer-management environment.

FlyFTP is deployed and billed through Azure Marketplace, and Azure infrastructure charges are separate. The listed support channels are email and documentation. Its Azure-specific deployment and key-only SFTP make it a narrower fit than a service chosen for varied hosting environments or password-based SFTP access. Consider it when tenant-contained files, standard clients, and the two transfer protocols are central requirements; look elsewhere if you need a web console or a deployment outside Azure. Pricing is contact-sales, so buyers should account for both the FlyFTP purchase and Azure infrastructure costs when evaluating it.

FlyFTP pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Supports explicit FTPS over TLS and SFTP with SSH public-key authentication
    • Keeps files in the customer’s Azure tenant with isolated account directories
    • Adds CIDR allow-listing and administrative usage and event log commands
  • Where it doesn't
    • Deployment is tied to an Azure subscription and Azure Marketplace
    • SFTP authentication is key-only
    • Azure infrastructure charges are separate from FlyFTP billing
