FileWave is a unified endpoint management platform for IT teams responsible for desktop, mobile, and ChromeOS fleets. Its scope spans enrollment, software distribution, patching, inventory, policies, reporting, remote support, and device lock or wipe. The mix of device administration and Windows imaging makes it relevant to organizations with varied endpoints, including education, government, and corporate teams. It may be more than a team needs if it only wants basic device enrollment or a narrow mobile-management tool.

The standout breadth is paired with imaging and operational controls: teams can distribute applications, scripts, and content; manage operating-system and third-party patches; schedule inventory reports; and configure policies and profiles. Windows imaging and PXE booting add a specific fit for organizations that provision Windows devices alongside mobile and other desktop systems. Remote desktop support is provided through TeamViewer, and license management includes Apple VPP integration. These capabilities make FileWave a stronger match for mixed fleets with varied deployment and maintenance workflows than for organizations seeking only a single-purpose tool.

According to the vendor's pricing page, the paid Professional plan is $12.50 per device and includes management for iOS, macOS, tvOS, Windows, Android, and ChromeOS, onboarding automation, enhanced customer support, and two TeamViewer licenses. Community is listed at $15 per device and limits management to up to 15 devices each for mobile, desktop, and Chrome, with device usage and security reporting. A 30-day free trial is advertised, but there is no perpetual free plan. The published plans make the per-device cost a key consideration: FileWave suits teams that will use its broad management and imaging capabilities, while a simpler fleet or tighter per-device budget may favor a narrower alternative.

FileWave pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Manages application, script, content, OS, and third-party patching
    • Combines Windows imaging and PXE booting with remote support
    • Supports major desktop and mobile systems, plus Apple VPP integration
  • Where it doesn't
    • Professional costs $12.50 per device
    • Community is limited to 15 devices each for mobile, desktop, and Chrome
    • Broad management scope may exceed the needs of teams with simpler fleets
