FileMerlin review
A Windows converter for large legacy-file jobs, with one-time licenses starting at $95.

FileMerlin is Windows software for converting word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database files, including formats from legacy applications. It is aimed at organizations that need to turn large collections of older files into Word, PDF or other formats, and developers who want conversion technology for integration into software. Its breadth across more than 100 source applications and ability to process thousands of files in one operation make it a specialized option for batch work rather than a general-purpose online converter.
The published single-machine license examples are $95 one-time for the Word destination function and $195 one-time for all destination functions. The first converts source formats to Microsoft environment formats, including Word; the second allows conversion to any destination format. Pricing depends on license type and destination environment. There is no free plan. A time-unlimited trial is available, but it intentionally introduces spelling errors or limits converted records, so it does not provide an unrestricted way to evaluate output quality. Buyers should choose a license based on the destination formats required.
FileMerlin runs standalone, without requiring Word or other host software, and can convert documents to PDF without opening them in their host application. It also supports customizable conversions and provides Windows DLL libraries with an API for integration. Those capabilities suit teams with recurring legacy-document workloads or developers embedding conversion in Windows software. Its desktop, Windows focus is a poor fit for buyers seeking cloud conversion. Choose it for high-volume legacy-file conversion and its range of destinations; look elsewhere if cloud processing is essential or only occasional individual conversions are needed.
