Our verdict on Ferndesk
Ferndesk is a cloud-based knowledge base and help-center platform for SaaS teams that need both customer-facing support content and developer documentation. It supports public and private help centers, custom domains or subfolder hosting, AI answers, customer conversations, multilingual documentation, OpenAPI hosting, and embedded self-service widgets. Support and documentation teams can use it to publish articles, while development teams can connect product changes and pull requests to documentation workflows.
The platform’s strongest differentiator is its connection between documentation and product operations. Ferndesk can draft documentation updates from code and pull requests, while its Fern agent checks documentation against product changes, support conversations, code, changelogs, and videos before drafting updates for review. Analytics cover searches, missed searches, failed answers, and feedback, giving teams visibility into where self-service content needs attention. Integrations include Intercom, Zendesk, Crisp, Help Scout, HubSpot, Slack, Discord, Gmail, and GitHub, with web, API, and Chrome extension access.
Pricing is focused on paid plans. Pro costs $149 per month or $1,490 per year and includes AI-assisted documentation updates, public and private help centers, custom hosting, AI conversations, and API and MCP access. Enterprise costs $399 per month and adds higher limits, SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, custom integrations, priority support, and white-glove onboarding. A seven-day trial is available. Ferndesk suits teams that want AI-assisted support content, code-connected documentation, and a wide integration set; teams needing only a small, straightforward documentation site may find its starting price and breadth harder to justify.
