Exoscale SOS review
A focused S3-compatible service with zone replication, versioning, and object lock.

Exoscale SOS is a pay-as-you-go object storage service for developers, data engineers, and organizations managing backups, files, media, metadata, and application assets. It provides an S3-compatible API alongside web tooling, direct HTTP/S object access, and infrastructure automation workflows. The service supports object sizes up to 4 TiB, with data and replicas remaining in the selected country while bucket replication can synchronize objects across zones.
The Standard Object Storage plan charges €0.0184 per GB per month, with usage-based storage billing, free retrieval, and free inbound traffic. The published plan is metered monthly, making SOS a straightforward fit for workloads that need one storage tier rather than a broad set of archival or performance classes. There is no free plan, so teams evaluating the service should account for paid usage from the outset. The listed price also makes cost comparison important for larger storage volumes.
Its strongest fit is an S3-oriented workflow that benefits from replication, versioning, immutability, encryption, ACLs, CORS, and metadata support. Terraform, AWS CLI, s3cmd, the MinIO client, and Mountpoint S3 provide familiar integration paths. Object lock and legal hold support are useful for retention-sensitive data, while SSE-SOS and SSE-C provide server-side encryption options. The main functional gap is the absence of native S3 Object Lifecycle Management; a Docker-based lifecycle emulation tool is available instead. SOS suits buyers seeking focused European object storage with common S3 tooling, but alternatives may be preferable when automated lifecycle rules or lower listed storage pricing are priorities.
