Enigma Vault Data Vault review
A low-cost cloud vault for deterministic tokens, encrypted lookup and controlled API access.

Enigma Vault Data Vault is a cloud-based, searchable field-level encryption API for teams protecting personal data, secrets and identifiers. It encrypts fields with AES-256 and returns tokens for storage in an application database, allowing exact-match lookup without retaining plaintext there. Deterministic tokens support searches, joins and deduplication, while custom identifiers, retrieval controls and expiry settings support application workflows. The vendor identifies healthcare, financial, government, education and legal use cases, with access through web and API interfaces.
Pricing follows a freemium structure billed monthly through AWS Marketplace. Lite costs $0 per month and includes AES-256 field encryption with community support. Plus costs $49.99 per month and adds ephemeral key sharing and email support. Premium costs $249.99 per month, with the highest request volume and priority support. Teams can therefore start without a subscription charge, then move to paid tiers for stronger support and additional sharing or capacity provisions.
The standout capability is searchable protection: deterministic tokens and exact-match encrypted-value lookup preserve selected database workflows while keeping plaintext out of the application database. The REST API supports OAuth2 machine-to-machine authentication, per-vault scopes, ephemeral one-time-use keys, configurable secret expiry, automatic deletion and audit logs containing client ID, IP, resource path and response status. Batch processing handles up to 5,000 secrets per request. Choose Data Vault when API-centered tokenization, lookup and controlled access fit your architecture; teams needing named connectors or format-preserving tokenization should choose another option.
Enigma Vault Data Vault pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Deterministic tokens enable exact-match search, joins and deduplication
- AES-256 field encryption uses unique per-field initialization vectors
- OAuth2, scoped vault access, expiry controls and audit logging
- Where it doesn't
- Integration options center on the REST API rather than named connectors
- Tokenization is deterministic, not format-preserving
- Premium costs $249.99 per month
