electerm review
A broad, free SSH client with file management, tunneling, and multi-platform access.

electerm is a free, open-source terminal and file-management application for connecting to remote systems. It suits users who need more than a basic SSH terminal, including administrators and developers working across desktop, mobile, browser, or self-hosted environments. Alongside SSH and SFTP, it supports FTP, Telnet, serial, RDP, VNC, and SPICE connections, with public-key and password authentication.
Its strongest advantage is breadth within one application. SSH tunneling, port forwarding, X11 forwarding, proxy configuration, and connection hopping cover more advanced remote-access workflows, while integrated SFTP editing supports drag-and-drop file management. Tabbed terminals, split panes, quick input, and workspace presets help organize recurring layouts and bookmarked tabs. File transfers through Zmodem and Trzsz add practical options for moving data between local and remote systems.
electerm also offers a wide deployment and synchronization model. It is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and HarmonyOS, with a browser version and Docker-based self-hosting option. Bookmark, theme, and quick-command synchronization can connect through GitHub secret gist, Gitee secret gist, WebDAV, custom servers, or electerm cloud. AI assistant and MCP widget integrations extend the interface beyond core terminal work. Choose electerm when free, open-source access and broad protocol coverage matter; users seeking a narrowly focused SSH client may find its wider feature set unnecessary.
