Our verdict on EchoMimic

EchoMimic is an open-source research project from Ant Group’s Alipay team for generating animated portrait videos from audio, facial landmarks, or both. It is aimed at academic researchers and developers exploring talking-head and portrait-animation generation. The project runs locally through source code, model instructions, pretrained checkpoints, and a Gradio web interface rather than through a hosted commercial product. Its focus is narrow and clear: controllable portrait animation for users comfortable with local AI software.

Its main strength is control. EchoMimic supports audio-driven generation, facial-landmark-driven animation, combined audio and selected-landmark control, and pose-driven inference. Motion alignment helps connect reference images with driven videos, while accelerated inference pipelines target more efficient local generation.
