DuplicateDuster review
A cross-platform exact-match cleaner with strong safety controls and a capped free cleanup tier.

DuplicateDuster is a desktop utility for finding and removing exact duplicate files and folders on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It suits people managing large folder trees, multiple drives, shared or NAS folders, and mixed-device environments. The product compares file contents with SHA-256 hashing, so renamed copies and cross-drive duplicates can be identified. It also matches recursively identical folder trees, then lets users review duplicate groups before reclaiming space.
The free plan provides unlimited scanning and unlimited reclaimable-space reporting, along with SHA-256 file and folder matching and four reclaim modes. Cleanup is limited to 50 files per run. Solo adds one-machine activation, removes the per-run cleanup limit, includes all four reclaim modes, and stays up to date. Team supports five machine activations, allows additional seats, removes the cleanup limit, and adds three-pass secure erase, hard-linking, and priority email support. Offline licensing is also available, which may suit environments with restricted connectivity.
Its standout strength is the combination of exact-content matching, folder-tree comparison, and a source-and-target safety model. Users can preserve designated source folders while cleaning target folders, with options for recycle-bin deletion, permanent deletion, secure erase, or hard-linking. That makes DuplicateDuster a focused choice for controlled local deduplication rather than a general file organizer. The lack of previews and automatic selection means users must review and decide which duplicate groups to process. Choose it when cross-platform coverage, folder-tree matching, and explicit cleanup controls matter; choose an alternative when automated selection or visual file previews are central requirements.
