Dropbox Fax (formerly HelloFax) review
A practical choice for occasional faxing from Dropbox and other cloud-storage services.

Dropbox Fax, formerly known as HelloFax, is a cloud-based fax service for individuals and organizations that need to send or receive documents without a physical fax machine. It supports web-based document uploads, email-to-fax sending, PDF delivery for received faxes, inbound fax numbers, international faxing, and online document preparation. Its strongest fit is occasional faxing for people who already keep documents in Dropbox or another supported cloud-storage service.
The Free plan costs $0 USD and includes 5 free outbound fax pages, with up to 20 additional pages that can be earned. It is limited to sending, while inbound faxing requires a paid account. A 30-day trial is also available. For document workflows, Dropbox Fax connects with Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, and Evernote, allowing users to work from familiar storage locations rather than maintaining a separate document repository. The service also supports fax-number assignment, routing for incoming faxes, and porting eligible existing fax numbers in the United States and Canada.
Dropbox Fax is particularly useful when faxing needs extend beyond simple uploads. Users can add text, signatures, checkboxes, or dates before sending, and developers can send faxes through the API. Transmissions are encrypted, and incoming faxes can arrive as PDFs through the service and email. The main trade-off is platform access: Dropbox Fax is available through the web and API, with smartphone faxing handled through email rather than a dedicated mobile app. Choose it for occasional, cloud-storage-centered faxing and lightweight automation; organizations that require native mobile apps or a sending-only free workflow may need a different fit.
