Our verdict on DreamTalk
DreamTalk is an open-source, diffusion-based framework for generating expressive talking-head videos from an audio track and an input portrait. It is aimed at researchers and technical teams exploring lip synchronization, facial motion, speaking-style control, and multilingual video generation. The system supports speech in seven languages, songs, noisy audio, out-of-domain portraits, and references for pose and style. Its positioning is research-oriented rather than designed for general business video production.
The standout capability is control over expression and speaking style. DreamTalk uses a style-aware lip expert for lip-sync guidance, predicts speaking style from audio, and allows manipulation through guidance-scale adjustment and style-code interpolation. This gives research users more control than a basic audio-to-mouth animation pipeline. Optional resolution enhancement through CodeFormer or MetaPortrait adds a separate quality-improvement path after generation.
DreamTalk is distributed as local research code, with installation and inference instructions for running it outside a hosted service.
