Our verdict on DRC Designer

DRC Designer is a graphical desktop interface for creating digital room-correction filters for two-channel stereo systems. It records speaker impulse responses through a playback and recording interface, then generates standard or customized filters for users working with a measurement microphone, microphone preamplifier and full-duplex sound interface. Windows and Linux users can run it as a desktop tool, with support aimed at solo and small-scale setups.

The published offering is free, with no paid tiers to compare. Its filter workflow provides adjustable correction parameters, custom target frequency responses and support for 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz sample rates. Microphone calibration files can be included during filter generation, and the software creates Convolver VST configuration files. This gives users control over how correction is shaped rather than restricting them to a single preset approach.

Integration centers on convolution playback. DRC Designer works with JRiver Media Center, Foobar2000 and CPlay through Convolver VST, so the generated files fit into those desktop audio environments. The trade-off is a narrow scope: category specifications cap correction at two channels, making it unsuitable for systems that require multichannel processing. Setup also depends on dedicated measurement hardware and interface routing, while support is delivered through documentation. Choose DRC Designer when a free, adjustable stereo convolution workflow matches your equipment and player software; choose another room-correction tool when you need more than stereo channels or a broader deployment model.
