DRAKVUF Sandbox review
A focused open-source sandbox for agentless malware monitoring on self-managed infrastructure.

DRAKVUF Sandbox is an open-source, automated black-box malware analysis system built around the DRAKVUF engine. It is designed for malware researchers, security teams, and incident responders who can operate self-managed virtualization infrastructure. Users can submit suspicious files through a web interface, run them in isolated Windows virtual machines, and review results through the web interface or API. The product supports web, Linux, API, and self-hosted use, with on-premises deployment as its operating model.
Its standout capability is agentless guest monitoring. Configurable plugins cover processes, files, memory, sockets, and TLS, giving teams several ways to inspect behavior without installing an agent inside the guest. Network traffic capture produces downloadable PCAP files, while reports cover domains, HTTP requests, URLs, connections, and file changes. DRAKVUF Sandbox also supports screenshots, memory dump collection, downloadable dump archives, and API-based analysis queuing and result retrieval. Optional S3 storage can be used for analysis results, and Redis is listed as an integration.
The main trade-off is operational ownership. Cloud hosting is unsupported, and deployment requires self-managed Xen-based virtualization infrastructure, so the product suits teams with the platform knowledge and infrastructure needed to run an on-premises sandbox. It is a strong fit when agentless monitoring, configurable inspection, PCAP, memory dumps, and API access matter more than managed delivery. Teams seeking hosted deployment or URL analysis verification should choose a different sandbox.
