Dr.Explain is a Windows help-authoring and software documentation tool for software developers, technical writers, and organizations producing user guides, online manuals, and help systems. It combines rich-text editing with images, video, tables, links, variables, and interface captures. Documentation can be published to HTML, CHM, PDF, and DOCX, while imports from CHM, HLP, HTML, XML, DOC/DOCX, and TXT can support teams moving existing material into a new project. Its focus suits organizations creating structured, traditional product documentation rather than teams seeking a platform for broad, cross-device knowledge sharing.
Publishing depth is a central strength. Automatic screenshot capture and interface annotation help document application workflows, while Help Context IDs and map files support context-sensitive help. Custom CSS and visual templates provide control over online manual presentation. Topic locking, color-coded statuses, comments, and revision tracking support editorial coordination. Collaboration is available through the Tiwri.com cloud service or an on-premises Collaboration Server, giving teams options for how documentation work is coordinated.
