Our verdict on DosKit

DosKit is an open-source MS-DOS emulator delivered as a Progressive Web App. It is designed for people who want to run DOS applications and games through modern desktop or mobile browsers, with support for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. Its interactive DOS command prompt, deep links to specific applications, and installation as a PWA make it suitable for accessible DOS use across several device types. Users can also self-host the project from its public source repository.

Its platform coverage is the main strength. DosKit can operate offline after the first visit, which suits devices where continued browser access is not guaranteed. Full keyboard and touch controls cover desktop and mobile interaction, while the listed gamepad support adds another input option. Sound Blaster and AdLib audio emulation support common DOS-era audio configurations. Configurable DOSBox and DOSBox-X backends give users a choice of emulation foundations, and programmatic controls for pause, resume, audio, screenshots, and filesystem access make the product relevant to applications that need to control an emulator rather than only launch it manually.

DosKit is a strong fit for users who value free, open-source access, broad platform support, offline PWA use, and developer-facing controls. Its narrower fit is for projects that require clearly defined disk-image formats, dependable user-facing save-state restoration, CD audio, or a stated DOS target version. The project documents joystick configuration and state-persistence APIs, but those capabilities do not establish the same experience as fully specified consumer features. Choose DosKit for flexible browser and app-based DOS access; consider another emulator when exact media compatibility or clearly documented restoration behavior is central.
