DNSControl is open-source infrastructure-as-code software for managing DNS configuration across multiple DNS hosts. It is aimed at developers, infrastructure teams, and organizations that manage domains through code rather than through a single hosted control panel. A JavaScript-compatible configuration language, provider plugins, and preview and push commands support a workflow in which teams review DNS changes before applying them. DNSControl runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, and self-hosted environments.

Its strongest fit is a multi-provider operating model. DNSControl can synchronize zones across providers and connects with AWS Route 53, Cloudflare, Gandi, BIND, Azure DNS, Google DNS, PowerDNS, and Vercel. The get-zones command can import DNS records, while SPF optimization and Cloudflare proxy control add focused operational features. Git-based configuration and CI/CD support make it suitable for teams that want DNS changes represented as code and incorporated into existing delivery processes. The provider plugin architecture also gives the tool a defined way to work across different DNS platforms.

DNSControl is a good choice when portability, repeatable configuration, and reviewable changes matter more than a hosted management experience. It is less suitable for organizations seeking an all-in-one authoritative DNS service, because it provides orchestration and configuration software instead. Zone limits, record limits, DNSSEC behavior, and other operational capabilities depend on the selected provider. Teams that require verified role-based access control or audit logging should evaluate alternatives or surrounding systems before adopting it. For developer-led DNS operations across several providers, its free and open-source model is a practical fit.
