Django Q2 review
A focused open-source queue for asynchronous and scheduled Django workloads.

Django Q2 is an open-source Python package for Django developers who need asynchronous, scheduled, and recurring task processing. Its multiprocessing worker pool handles background work, while scheduled and cron-based tasks support recurring operations. The package also includes configurable retry timing, maximum attempts, stored task results, result hooks, groups, chains, Django Admin integration, and cluster monitoring. It is designed for web-based Django projects operated on Linux or macOS through Django management commands.
Broker and framework fit are central to Django Q2. Tasks can use Redis, IronMQ, Amazon SQS, MongoDB, or the Django ORM as brokers, with integrations for Rollbar and Sentry. Results can be stored in a database or cache, giving teams a choice of persistence approach. The package is especially suitable when Django Admin, Python, and the application’s existing ORM are already part of the operating model. Its official SDK is Python, so teams working primarily outside that ecosystem should look elsewhere.
The deployment model is self-hosted, with operation handled through commands such as qcluster and qmonitor. That gives Django teams control over worker and monitoring processes, but it also makes environment management part of the implementation. Broker-specific payload constraints can apply; Amazon SQS bulk settings have a 256 KB total payload limit. Choose Django Q2 for Django-native queues with scheduling, retries, results, and workflow composition. Consider an alternative when you need a broader multi-language platform or a managed service rather than a package operated within your Django environment.
