DishCost review
A focused, affordable recipe-costing tool for one-kitchen restaurant teams.

DishCost is web-based recipe-costing software for independent restaurants and small teams managing one kitchen. It calculates ingredient line costs, cost per serving, food-cost percentages, suggested menu pricing, and profit per serving. Operators can also create prep items and sub-recipes, scale recipes for catering and events, import ingredient data with CSV files, and review menu profitability through a menu engineering matrix.
Pricing is a clear part of the product’s appeal. The Free plan includes recipe costing tools, a food-cost percentage calculator, no time limit, and no credit card to start. The published plans also describe free tools that require no account. Pro costs $39 USD per month when billed monthly and adds unlimited recipes and ingredients, a menu engineering matrix, cost-change alerts, recipe scaling, distributor order guide import, and PDF and CSV export. Ingredient price history and automatic recipe recalculation help connect changing costs to existing recipes, while prep items and sub-recipes support more detailed kitchen costing.
DishCost is best suited to teams that need focused costing and menu-margin analysis rather than a broader restaurant operations system. Its web-only platform keeps the scope centered on recipes, pricing, imports, exports, and profitability analysis. The product does not include inventory counts, POS synchronization, or invoice OCR, and multi-location support is not currently available. Choose DishCost if free recipe costing and a straightforward upgrade path match a single-kitchen operation; choose an alternative if inventory control, connected point-of-sale workflows, invoice processing, or multi-location management are central requirements.
