DigitalOcean Kubernetes is a managed Kubernetes service for developers, startups, and small-to-medium-sized businesses. DigitalOcean manages the Kubernetes control plane, while customers deploy and administer containerized workloads through Kubernetes tooling, the DigitalOcean control panel, API, and CLI. The service supports node pools based on Droplets, autoscaling, automatic and manual upgrades, load balancers, block storage, GPU worker nodes, container registries, and integrations with other DigitalOcean services.

Pricing is based on worker-node type. The Basic plan starts at $12 per node per month. CPU-optimized costs $42, General purpose costs $63, Memory-optimized costs $84, and Storage-optimized costs $163 per node per month. The v5 option is listed at $0.031 per node per hour, while NVIDIA H100 GPU nodes are listed at $4.41 per node per hour. The published plans show usage-based worker-node pricing, so the Basic starting figure should not be treated as the cost of a complete cluster. There is no free plan.

The service fits teams that want Kubernetes administration alongside DigitalOcean infrastructure. Cluster Autoscaler can add and remove nodes, while Horizontal Pod Autoscaling supports workload-based scaling. Rolling worker-node upgrades, surge upgrades, automatic patch updates, maintenance windows, RBAC, custom role bindings, and control-plane IP allowlisting cover core operational and policy needs. Integrations include DigitalOcean Load Balancers, Volumes, NFS, CPU and GPU Droplets, Container Registry, Helm, Istio, the DigitalOcean API, and doctl. Choose it for a managed Kubernetes setup with DigitalOcean ecosystem fit; teams seeking a free plan or a different infrastructure ecosystem should look elsewhere.
