DigitalOcean Bare Metal GPUs review
A Linux-only bare-metal option for large, distributed GPU workloads.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
DigitalOcean Bare Metal GPUs provide dedicated, single-tenant servers with eight GPUs per system for AI training, inference, distributed deep learning, scientific computing, and other high-performance workloads. Configurations combine NVIDIA HGX H100, NVIDIA HGX H200, or AMD MI300X GPUs with dual Intel Xeon CPUs, 2,048 GiB of system RAM, and NVMe storage. The product is aimed at organizations that need substantial GPU capacity on dedicated infrastructure rather than a general-purpose cloud instance.
Commercial access is handled through DigitalOcean sales on a contract-based model, with payment managed through Paperspace. There is no free plan, and the category specifications do not include hourly billing. This purchasing model fits planned workloads, dedicated capacity requirements, and multi-node deployments more naturally than short experiments or usage patterns that depend on rapid, self-serve provisioning. Buyers should clarify the commercial arrangement and deployment requirements with sales before choosing a configuration.
Its strongest technical case is distributed GPU computing. Servers support up to 40 Gbps of public bandwidth, up to 400 Gbps of private VPC bandwidth, and up to 3.2 Tbps of GPU interconnect with RDMA. Root-level control covers software and drivers, while preconfigured Ubuntu, CUDA, and ROCm environments can reduce initial environment work. Standalone and multi-node operation support both individual systems and cluster deployments. Linux-focused teams running large AI or HPC workloads should consider it; buyers needing a free tier, hourly billing, or non-Linux support should look elsewhere.
