Deepgram Voice Agent API review
A configurable voice-agent stack with provider choice, telephony and self-hosting.

Deepgram Voice Agent API gives developers a streaming foundation for real-time voice applications, combining speech-to-text, LLM orchestration and text-to-speech over a single WebSocket connection. It is aimed at developers and enterprises building customer-service, scheduling, support and other voice-enabled applications. Prompt, model, voice and conversation-context settings let teams shape the agent, while browser-based agents and inbound or outbound telephony broaden deployment options. This is infrastructure for teams comfortable building around an API, rather than a turnkey agent product for nontechnical users.
Provider choice is a central part of the design. The API supports multiple LLM providers, Deepgram and third-party TTS voices, and function calling to connect external APIs and tools. Conversation history injection, barge-in and turn-taking controls address the interaction flow, while configurable recognition models and language settings allow further tailoring. Integrations include Twilio, Amazon Connect, Genesys Cloud CX and AudioCodes for telephony, alongside OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Groq, NVIDIA, Cartesia and ElevenLabs. Self-hosted deployment is also supported, making this a fit for teams that want control over their voice stack and deployment model.
According to the vendor's pricing page, Standard costs $0.075 per minute for the full Voice Agent API stack; Standard - BYO TTS is $0.065 per minute, and Custom - BYO LLM is $0.059 per minute. Custom - BYO LLM + TTS is pay-as-you-go, with no rate stated here. Advanced is $0.163 per minute, while Advanced - BYO TTS is $0.122 per minute. The documented 45-concurrent-connection limit applies to Pay As You Go. These usage-based tiers suit teams comparing managed components with provider flexibility, but costs vary with the selected tier. Choose Deepgram for customizable voice infrastructure and telephony options; look elsewhere if you need a packaged, no-code agent experience or predictable flat-rate pricing.
