DataVeil review
A focused, affordable choice for permanently masking sensitive data in database copies.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
DataVeil is desktop software for permanently replacing sensitive information in copies of SQL databases with realistic fictitious values. It is intended for development, testing, training, analytics, outsourcing and support use cases. The software runs on Windows and Linux and supports Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL DB, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Oracle, PostgreSQL and MySQL. Teams that need reusable masked database copies across these platforms will find its scope relevant.
The free Community plan includes sensitive-data discovery, masking reports, before-and-after previews and command-line execution. Its masking capabilities include built-in algorithms and custom regular expressions, format-preserving and partial-field masking, plus deterministic or random modes. DataVeil also handles referential integrity and automatically manages indexes, constraints and triggers. According to the published Team example, one connectivity option and 1 TB costs USD 5,690 per year, with unlimited users, unlimited installations, unlimited masked database copies, technical support and software updates. The example shows a practical path from free evaluation to a supported team deployment.
DataVeil’s strongest fit is persistent masking rather than ongoing database defense. It provides discovery, GUI and CLI execution, previews and PDF reporting, but its published capabilities do not include activity monitoring, access governance or threat detection. Choose it when the priority is creating realistic, structurally consistent masked copies for downstream work while keeping the product focused on that task. Organizations seeking live visibility into database activity, control over database access or detection of database threats should choose a product built around those functions instead.
