Datafari is an enterprise search platform for organizations that need one search layer across corporate repositories. It crawls and indexes file shares, CMSs, portals, databases, emails, and social networks, then provides keyword, semantic, vector, and hybrid search. Its audience is teams managing distributed content across systems such as SharePoint, Liferay, Alfresco, Documentum, FileNet, NetApp, Windows shares, Samba, Dropbox, and CMIS. Deployment options include web, Windows, Linux, and self-hosted environments, with REST available as the query interface.

Its strongest distinction is breadth across discovery, relevance, and access control. Datafari uses SolrCloud and Zookeeper for distributed indexing, while search includes multilingual support, spellchecking, suggestions, entity extraction, clustering, facets, field filtering, autocomplete, saved searches, alerts, and favorites. Vector search and reciprocal-rank fusion support hybrid retrieval. LDAP and Active Directory authentication, document-level ACL enforcement, and web administration for connectors, users, clusters, statistics, synonyms, and relevance settings make it suited to controlled enterprise environments. ELK-based analytics covers both data and queries.

The Community plan is free forever, Apache v2 licensed, and allows unlimited documents. The Initial plan adds advanced clustering, AD, LDAP, SSO, HTTPS, ACLs, backups, redundancy, monitoring, alerts, BI, machine learning, semantic search, autotuning, and vendor customer support. Tailored adds a custom roadmap, support for large datasets and regulatory requirements, and three-stage development, preproduction, and production environments. Choose Datafari when repository coverage, multilingual or hybrid retrieval, and document security matter together. Organizations seeking a small, narrowly focused search box may prefer a simpler tool with less administration.

Datafari pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Crawls file shares, CMSs, portals, databases, emails, and social networks
    • Combines multilingual semantic, vector, hybrid, and faceted search
    • Supports document-level ACLs, SolrCloud indexing, analytics, and administration
  • Where it doesn't
    • Enterprise capabilities are concentrated in paid plans
    • Broad connector and cluster administration may require specialist ownership
    • A narrow search deployment may not need its full repository and analytics scope
